Born on the edge of the Western Australian desert, where the desert meets the might of the Indian Ocean, Gypsea embodies the immense natural beauty in nature that surrounds and inspires us all.
Gypsea is the work of designer Emma Jones and surf photographer Scott Bauer, inspired by their love for design and all things beautiful. The result: unique pieces of wearable art.
The word ‘GYPSEA’ is a description of Bauer's life as a surf photographer roaming the world in search of the perfect breaking wave, experiencing an endless summer. ‘The ocean is a huge part of my life and to mix that with my love of photography has been truly awesome,’ explains Bauer.
Their latest collections Sereia & Ava as part of 'Sirens of the Sea’ and Bellini as part of "Microscopia Electronica" debuted at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia in Sydney earlier this year, celebrating the essence of the GYPSEA label.
"Sirens by the Sea represents our passion for the ocean and the eclectic beach lifestyle of the modern day mermaid. Microscopia Electronica offers a glimpse into the unique world of color and texture visible only to the naked eye under a microscope using polarised light. It’s abstract, experimental and progressive."
With these collections, they have returned to their roots: their love for travel, the ocean; surf, sand and beachside living. The Microscopia Electronica collection very much follows their passion, pushing boundaries with what is considered wearable art.
